The during production inspection is the second most common type of quality control inspection after the pre-shipment inspection. It is because inspecting the goods after they have been manufactured is frequently too late. In some cases, an entire order is discovered to be unsellable just before shipment and it cost too much time and money to repair it and sometimes the supplier refuses to do it for free.
To avoid and minimize this issue, many importers agree that inspection should begin earlier or during the production process. The goal is to detect quality concerns before it is too late so that the few goods that have already been manufactured hopefully can be reworked without causing a shipping delay and also the manufacturer could avoid the same issues.
When to conduct a during production inspection?
The best time to conduct this inspection depends on the product you manufactured and the factory’s experiences.
Checking too early
If you checked the product after the supplier produces 10% of your order, we can say that it is too early, because the products that come off the assembly lines are not typical of average quality. Furthermore, if your products have gone through several procedures but are not yet finished, you should make sure that you can detect the quality issues at this stage.
Checking too late
Most Asian manufacturers especially in Indonesia work in very big quantities, that is why you cannot see the final products in one or two weeks after manufacturing. On the other hand, if you wait until 50% of the products are finished, another 30% are most likely already being processed, which means 80% of your products are already processed. The risk is if you find any quality defects at this stage, 80% of your products may be defects and the manufacturer need some extra time to re-work them which will cause a shipping delay.
